Making of a drum…

Earlier this year the drum I use for Shammanic Healing, was sadly damaged in a drive from the southeast to the northeast.  When I discovered the drum was damaged, I immediately was sad.  Truth is I burst into tears.  The drum had come to me 9 years ago and it became one of the tools I connected with the most. As I was in this moment of sadness, I also started to feel joy.  This tool had been in service for healing for the entire time. It touched many lives, mine included and I realized just how grateful I was.

I was hopeful I might be able to repair the drum, yet was unsure how.  I reached out to a friend who as hosted drum making workshops to see if she might be able to repair it for me. Intuitively she echoed the message that I had received, which was it was time to let go. That it had served it’s purpose. This friend is a wise soul and I knew what she said to be true.  She suggested that I make my own drum, that it was an experience I should consider.

After a few months, I finally ordered a drum kit from Cedar Mountain Drums in Portland, OR.  It arrived two days before embarking on our journey to England. While I had wanted to create the drum under the influence of the total solar eclipse, unfortunately with the soaking time, it had to wait for my return.

While in England, we attended the Conference on Consciousness and Human Evolution in London, which was highly educational and intense. After, we visited Avebury & Glastonbury – visiting the Chalice Well, Glastonbury Tor and the Abbey.  I meditated in the peaceful, loving chalice well garden, then climbed Glastonbury Tor to meditate inside the the tower. While sitting at the top with the Tor, I felt as though I was vibrating.  Combined that with the peace I had experienced in the garden and I felt that my heart chakra was wide open.  I was filled with love and gratitude and was feeling so blessed and peaceful in the moment.  Later I learned that these sacred places are on a “ley line” that is considered the heart chakra of the world!

After we returned from our epic journey, I felt it was time to make the drum.  The drum came with written instructions as well as links to watch videos that were of the drum maker, Patrick Pinson giving step by step instructions while he made a drum. I watched all the videos and found them to be an invaluable tool!

Before making the drum, I created sacred space and smudged the space, hide, hoop and ties.  Making a drum is a sacred ceremony, it was important to be clear to infuse only the best, most positive, loving intentions into the drum.

As I did this, I documented the process some…

Starting to make the drum

All prepped and ready to go!

Lacing the drum

Lacing the drum was next, giving thanks to Father Sky and Mother Earth, breathing into my heart and breathing out of my heart, I continued clockwise, as Patrick had advised.

Lacing and stretching complete

Once the lacing was complete, next was wrapping the four quadrants or four directions, creating a cross, which will serve as the drum handle.

Up high to dry

Having a 5 month old kitten means, if there is something she shouldn’t be into, it has to go higher than she can go.  See the heart? How cool!

Dry and ready to be awakened

It took a solid 2 days to completely dry.  I was so excited to take the drum down and hear it’s sound for the first time.  I created sacred space again, smudging the space, the drum, the beater, and myself, then calling in each direction, one by one. Once the awakening was complete, I continued drumming for as long as I felt moved to.

Consciously making and awakening the drum is an experience I am most grateful for.  I now look forward to sharing the medicine of the drum with others.

Feel free to visit Cedar Mountain Drums if you wish to make or purchase a drum of your own.  Their products and service is exceptional! Please tell Patrick I sent you.

*Note: My kit was a 20″ inch cedar hoop with Elk hide.

Creating the drum brought me back to my drum circle days. I am grateful to my teacher of the drum, Ray Spirit Wolf.  Ray is the drum keep of an amazing drum.  He shared his knowledge, wisdom and medicine of the drum with several of us, teaching us the ways that he had learned and the songs.  Our drum circle met regularly for almost 3 years. We participated at several Pow-Wow’s in the RI/MA area.  Below is the one group picture of our drum members, taken at a Pow Wow in Lincoln, RI.  We were called Hawk Song Drum.   It was an absolute joy and honor to be a part of this loving circle. I am so grateful for the experience!

Autumn Equinox 2017

As you may know, next Saturday (9/23) is the Autumn Equinox. The Autumn Equinox is a time of balance, where day and night have the same length. Balance is a dynamic dance of growth and death, expansion and contraction.  Mother Earth doesn’t resist the changes of seasons, instead “she” welcomes it. By surrendering our resistance, it allows us to be in flow.  By aligning ourselves with this flow, we open to experience great peace and joy, in this journey we call life.
To celebrate this time of balance, my friend Katherine Leonard is opening her home, fondly known as The Sanctuary at Capri Isle, to offer a one day retreat that’s purpose is to re-align and re-balance you to a higher level of functioning and well-being. This retreat is a collaboration between Katherine, Ashley Nunn and myself.
Katherine and Ashley are amazing, passionate women. By combining our energies, experiences and expertise, we are excited to offer this unique healing and balancing retreat to a small group of women.
The Retreat will be an experiential day of inward and outward activities, rejuvenating and balancing.

Conference in London…

img_1517Last month, I attended the Conference for Consciousness and Human Evolution in London, England. Speakers included Gregg Braden, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Joe Dispenza, Lynne McTaggart, Dr. JJ Hurtak, Desiree Hurtak, in addition to other speakers. Overall the event was about bridging Science to Spirituality. Each speaker was passionate about sharing their discoveries, their experiences and how we all can create change. It was beautiful to experience these speakers collaborating together with the intention to change the world.

The first day, I met a woman who started a conversation with me in the Ladies room. She had pointed out my American accent and asked where I was from. A conversation ensued, we exchanged pleasantries as we arrived back to the conference room. Shortly after all the presenters were brought on stage to introduce themselves, the lovely woman I spoke with was one of the presenters, Lynne McTaggart. Before the conference, I was unfamiliar with her work – yet when she presented, I had an energetic release and clarity of my purpose. She offered an exercise for the entire room of 500 people, which was powerfully intense. Imagine 500 people in their heart, focusing on healing 1 person in each group of 8-12 for 15 mins. Being an empath, tears of joy, streamed down my face. It was an incredibly moving and humbling experience. It is what I learned from Lynne that I will incorporate in all the work I do. I am excited to share and create this experience with others.

The event was three intense days… My takeaways’ from the event are….

  • LOVE – LOVE is what saves US and the world
  • We are all connected, there is no separation
  • We are multi-dimensional beings of life
  • Intention is powerful
  • We all have the blueprint for perfect health within us now
  • Our thoughts affect us on a cellular level
  • Our thought effects and creates our reality
  • The time we are in requires feminine energy – nurturing and connection

Now that I am home, I am scheduling meditations and events that will empower, creating a sacred, safe space to share, connect and support each other in an authentic, genuine, loving way.
